Established in 2013 by four image makers from São Paulo, Brazil, Trëma is a collective effort dedicated to documentary and editorial photography focusing on themes of contemporary Brazilian society. The group is currently working on projects presenting the traditional and modern identity processes that take place on the communital space.

Trëma has been published by some of the country’s most important news outlets, such as cultural magazine piauí, National Geographic Brasil, Folha de S.Paulo’s Serafina and many others.

In 2014, Trëma was one of the winners of the XIV Funarte Marc Ferrez Prize with Lagoa da Confusão: Wanderlândia, published at www.fronteiras.org.

Its work A Tropa de Elite was the winner of the 2014 FCW Art Prize for Photography, one of the most prestigious photography prizes in Brazil.

In August 2015 Trëma was announced as one of the two recipients of the ZUM IMS Photography Grant with the project Memento, finalized in late 2016.

In mid-2017 the group went on hiatus to carry projects outside the field of photography.

As of 2020, Trëma is active and taking assignments from news outlets worldwide.
